The Universe of the Four Gods of Heaven and Earth
It all started with Miaka Yuuki and Yui Hongo, two normal high school girls, who discovered an old book entitled "The Universe of the Four Gods of Heaven and Earth" in a forbidden section of the state library. As soon as they turned over the first page, both were thrown into the book and transported back in time (or dimension?) to Ancient China. But soon, Yui was transported back to their world, and all she could do was to read the book to follow Miaka's adventure in the Konan Empire, one of the four kingdoms in the book. Each of these kingdoms have a protector god, meaning that there are 4 gods:
In Ancient China, there were 28 constellations altogether, and these constellations were divided into four sections, and each of them was placed under the sovereignty of a beast god. At first, Miaka wandered around the city of Konan, alone and lost, looking for her friend Yui. Then, she met Tamahome, a young man who helped her. Before long, both got into trouble when Miaka tried to harrass the emperor, who was being paraded in the city. Both were brought to see the emperor, who realized that Miaka was from another world. It turns out that the reason Miaka was brought into that book was to assume the role as the Suzaku no Miko, or the Priestess of Suzaku. Her duty is to gather the 7 Celestial Warriors of Suzaku, so that she can summon the beast god Suzaku to have three wishes fulfilled. There was a prophesy in Konan about a girl who would come from another world to summon Suzaku, and the emperor believed that Miaka was the prophesied one. He hoped that Miaka can summon Suzaku to bring peace to the Konan Empire, which was threatened by the army of Kutou. Tamahome
was in fact one of the Celestial Warriors, bearing a demon or Soon, Miaka found the third Warrior, Nuriko, who was a concubine in the imperial harem. Then all 4 decided to search the kingdom for the other 4 warriors. But Miaka became injured and was forced to return to her world. Yui, who stayed in the library to read about Miaka, helped Miaka to return home. Unfortunately, when Miaka arrived home, she could not find Yui, not knowing that Yui had been taken into the book in Miaka's place. Miaka then returned to the book, in hopes to find Yui. Her search led her to Kutou, the rival kingdom of Konan. There, she met Yui again, but things have changed between them. Nakago, one of the 7 Celestial Warriors of Seiryuu, is a very bad guy, and he sabotaged Yui and Miaka's friendship by making Yui believe that she had been raped when she first arrived in Kutou (even though he had saved her in time) and that Miaka had totally forgotten about her after she returned home. Nakago's scheme worked, and Yui hated Miaka, both becoming enemies, and Yui accepting her duty as Seiryuu no Miko or the Priestess of Seiryuu. The story goes on, with Miaka searching for her other Warriors, and the Seiryuu people trying to get in Miaka's way. Both raced against each other to first summon their god. warriors, each having a distinct mark on their body. They are Nuriko,
Chichiri, Tasuki, Mitsukake & Chiriko.
