What’s YYH mainly about?

The conflicts between different worlds, with our 4 main stars being the heroes, fighting all sorts of demons (youkais) to preserve our human world from harm.

What do you mean by different worlds?

In YYH, there are 3 main separate worlds. They are:

REIKAI – The spiritual world. Sort of like HEAVEN, where all dead human & demon spirits go to face Judgement (something like that). They have guards and a king (a bit like a government over the worlds). They are also in charge of the HUMAN world, and protect it from BAD youkais.
NINGENKAI – The human world. Where ignorant people like us who believe that we are the only ones of the face of the Earth live. Most humans are totally unaware of the other two worlds, while some psychos believe they exist. The rest are special humans born with special powers, and can see demons in our world (others can’t).
MAKAI – The demon world. This is where all the youkais are born and live in. But don’t get me wrong just because I use the word demon. It’s not HELL. These demons are like humans, just that they look different (UGLY), have powers (with different grades) and most are evil and like to eat humans. MAKAI is separated from NINGENKAI by this dimension gate or something. Only weak and harmless youkais can get to NINGENKAI, while those powerful (and mainly nasty) ones cannot pass unless they give up their power, which makes them weak & harmless.

OKAY, I’m getting confused already.

There are lots of fighting, a bit like DRAGON BALL. All those people (or youkais) that can fight have different grades. D being the worse, then C, B. A is powerful, but the highest grade is S (VERY powerful). In YYH, the main stars will meet foes that get more and more powerful. The BAD GUYS often have the intention to hurt harmless humans, some wants to create a portal where ALL youkais can just come over, while some just wanna rule the 3 worlds. Yu Yu Hakusho has a rather long story line, and the special thing about YYH is that you can see the 4 main stars maturing and growing more powerful and wiser. The characters have their very own distinct history, even the bad guys. I like the history bit the most.

Main Characters
	YUSUKE Full Name : Urameshi YUSUKE Age : 14 when the story started off. What’s so special about him?? : He fights very well. He’s the MAIN star, cause he is most powerful, and the other three usually depend on him to beat the more powerful BAD guys. Family Background : His mother got pregnant with him when she was only 16. They never mention who the father was. The mother , Atsuko, is a drunkard, drinking a lot, but she loves him very much, and always hoped that he’ll never end up like her. Towards the end of the series, it was revealed that his ancestor was a demon named Raizen, one of the three emperors of MAKAI. School : A BIG TIME troublemaker. Always brawling, failing papers, and not getting along with teachers. But he’s well known as a VERY good brawler, and no one can defeat him. Crude boy with crude language.
KUWABARA Full Name : KUWABARA Kazuma Age : same as YUSUKE What’s so special about him?? : Uh, actually nothing much. Not a famous character, but he’s funny and does a lot of dumb stuff. Not a very good fighter. But honorable for he values friendship and has high respects toward women. He dislikes people who looks beter than him (eg. Kurama). Does not get along well with HIEI. Family Background : Has an elder sister, SHIZURU. Terrified of her. Of course, considering that she can whip the ass out of him. She’s very cool, but doesn’t fight. School : Similar to YUSUKE. But he was YUSUKE’s rival. Known as the second best brawler, a title that he always liked to change. Challenges YUSUKE to a fight every day, and gets beaten up like pulp. In the end, both became close friends.
	KURAMA Full Name : Minamino Suitchi (human), Youko KURAMA (demon) Age : 15 (human), 200++ (demon) What’s so special about him?? : His history is special. Actually a famous & powerful FOX-DEMON (youko) in MAKAI. He was as a thief and steals valuable artifacts. One day he was hunted down by a powerful killer, and was wounded. In order to survive, he escaped to NINGENKAI in a form of a spirit, and entered the womb of a woman, MINAMINO SHIORI. Kurama was then born a human. His true purpose of staying in NINGENKAI was to recover his strength for mostly 10 years. But 15 years had passed and still, he's still with SHIORI. He couldn’t bear to leave his human mother after all she had done for him, for his mother had raised KURAMA lovingly. Instead, he sacrificed most of his power to stay, becoming less powerful. Has the power over plants. Towards the later part in the series, he could change form into a youko, where he can fight with more power and skill. Family Background : His father died when he was young. In the end of the series, his mother remarried and he had a stepbrother. School : Considering that he is VERY old, he’s very wise. He’s the top student in his school, and BIOLOGY is his favorite subject.

HIEI Full Name : dunno, I guess it’s just HIEI Age : dunno too What’s so special about him?? : He’s the coolest among the four. Has attitude. Stubborn, BIG ego, very skilled in fighting, smart. He has a third eye, called the JAGAN, which enables him to see very far, and to control weak humans. He was a BAD guy at first, fighting YUSUKE & KUWABARA, but was forced to fight along with them. In the end, he learned to respect them and acknowledged them as his partners (except KUWABARA, they never get along). Family Background : HIEI’s history is the most intriguing of all. Throughout the series, we only know of a sister, YUKINA, who was looking for her long-lost brother. HIEI never revealed himself to her, not even in the end. The whole story of HIEI’s past was only revealed at the near end of the series. History : HIEI is a fire demon who was born in the Floating Kingdom of KOORIME / ice country of MAKAI where legendary ice maidens live. Ice maidens usually reproduced themselves, bearing twin girls. But HIEI’s mother fell in love with a fire demon, and gave birth to him and his sister YUKINA. As a fire demon, HIEI was banished from their land when he was still a young infant because of the misfortune that he may bring to their homeland, as the KOORIME elders say. HINA, HIEI's mother, begged the elders to spare her son's life, but the elders did not listen. RURI, a friend of HINA, was ordered to cast the child from high ground and to let him die in the cursed MAKAI grounds. HIEI's small and helpless body was covered in straps with writings on him to seal his powers. RURI tucked a gem from HINA's tear inside the child's straps and whispered to him that he should survive and become strong. She will be waiting for his revenge. After this, she dropped the infant into the dangerous land of MAKAI as the elders and HINA watched it all happened. RURI's words were marked on HIEI's mind. HIEI survived the fall and was adopted by a group of thieves. HIEI kept the gem that reminded him of RURI and gave him a reason to go on. It also comforts him when he's alone. As years went on, HIEI learned to fight and defend himself from the evil youkais that lurks. He was fond of hearing cries for help from others. He also became a hired assassin at that time. The thieves who raised him couldn't take his attitude anymore and cast him from their group. He wandered in MAKAI all alone and killed whoever gets in his way. Unfortunately, when he was fighting with a youkai, he lost his gem. It fell from a cliff and the river beneath washed it away. It is now impossible for him to find the gem. At this point, he now has two things to find; the gem and the KOORIME. He then realized that he needed a third eye to find them, and so he went to SHIGURE. HIEI requested SHIGURE to implant the JAGAN on him. SHIGURE warned him that the operation would be dangerous, but HIEI insisted. The operation was very painful, and HIEI exerted some of his powers to somehow relieve him from the pain. The operation was successful, but HIEI lost almost all his strength. He left, with his third eye, to search for YUKINA. His search for YUKINA made him reach NINGENKAI. That was the place where he met KURAMA. At first both of them fought each other because of some misunderstanding. But both realized that their fighting skills blend well, and they became friends.
